I am a pretty good shooter. But I need help attacking the basket and scoring. I can't dribble the basketball that well and can't drive to the basketball. I am pretty much a catch and shoot type of player. How can become a better dribbler and have some good one-on-one moves?|||To get better you will need to practice with good form and a varity of game situations. Practice first with one hand then the other. Practice walking with the ball and dribbling then exploding straight forward, then stop and back up. If you have to look at the ball to begin with so be it. You want to work on dribbling the ball as if it was on a string and you don't need to watch it. You want to practice running, sprinting, hesitating, stopping, chaning direcitons... go to a empty court and practice... practice, practice. Then try it in some pick up games. You want to practice simply going straight at the basket then pulling up for a jumper from a variety of distances. Once you are comfortable you can run across court, pivot, then hit the J from a variet of distances. Start close and work your way out. Then work on changing directions or throwing a fake off a dribble and take your shot. Work on your lay ups as that is critical and a normal part of the game. After you can do a good cross over, they you can work on between the legs, around the back, spin, etc. Master the cross over, hesistation, stopping, stalling, first. Then worry about the pretties moves later.
Here is another fun drill, put a chair or two on the court and simply practicing dribbling past them with a change over, cut in front of them behind them, go full speed beside, hesistate and blow past.
One of the biggest mistakes in dribbling is not going somewhere with your move. You should be covering some ground not dribbling in one place.
See how few dribbles it takes you to get down the court (around 3-5 depending upon age and size).
Yes you can practice dribbling with two balls and moving around with both... differnent speeds, cutting and slashing, etc.
Best of luck.|||I'm not a good dribbler either but i can get to the basket just about whenever i want. The key for me is to make a quick decision if your going to shoot you know what to do, elbows in,spread your fingers, pop your wrist and last but not least follow thru. Now if you want to penetrate take 2 or 3 hard dribbles in the opposite direction of the way you want to go.Next you take a quick dribble in the direction your trying to go then you pickup the ball. Now you have two steps you can take to get to the basket. You should try this move from about 15 feet near the rim. With practice and adding your own style to it you should be able to be a decent penetrater.Miss direction is key good luck.|||Do what Pistol Pete Maravich did, have your dad drive you at 5mph while you dribble out of the passenger window. Once you can handle that, go for 10mph. Seriously, that's how he learned his mad handles.
Really, focus on the spots on your hands, go left to right to left, then try dribbling without looking, then switching hands without looking, then incorporate running and movement to the routine....try dribbling on vertical walls in between occasionally (learn control), and just let it come naturally to you.|||practice, practice and a little more practice. If you want to get better you have to work on your weakness.|||to improve your dribbling you need to practice on it just like everything in basketball, my favorit to improve my dribbling is to dribble with two balls head facing the front (not looking at the ball) and cross them over along the court first while walking and when u get used to it by running, then later on by running into zigzag (4 steps to the right the turn for 4 steps to the left)....this will help your overall control over the ball and will improve your crossover alot.|||well watch some and 1 vids and just practice more walk and run with the basktball more that should help|||the best way to improve ball handeling skills is to dribble two balls at the same time.
do various drills with them.|||Find an open, windowless, and debris clear room in your basement, flip off the lights, and practice crossovers, between the legs, and behind the backs. Helped me big time.|||Practice practice practice
