An easy way to relate the quadratic formula and basketball?
I have to make a video teaching my peers how to use the quadratic formula. I really want to make the video relating to basketball, but I'm not sure how to do that without getting them confused. Is there an easy way to apply basketball to using the quadratic formula?|||I'm not sure if this is what you're asking, but here's a start. You can look at the arc made by the ball to the basket. A quadratic equation models this.
How do I start a youths basketball team?
I'm 15 and have recently been playing basketball. There are no teams around my area, how could I start a team to play in?|||Josh...I can tell you one good place to start...Contact the sports department of your local newspaper and tell them you are interested in starting a team, and ask if they can help you out by putting a bulletin in the paper...They will know what questions to ask you (contact info, etc), and small town papers are especially helpful with youth sports (I used to be a sports writer for a small city daily paper)...Good luck!
What should I do today if basketball tryouts are tomorrow?
Basketball tryouts start tomorrow at my school and they will last for 2 weeks, the 1st week being th elimination of the lesser players. I have been practicing the fundamentals for about a little more than 1 month. Anyway, I was just wondering what should I be doing today besides practicing everything I know today (what to eat, mentality, etc.) . Also, can you guys give me any tips/suggestions for making it to the team?|||I would say don't stress yourself out today by practicing too much. Eat regular foods like normal except in the evening try to not eat very heavy foods. Morning and Afternoon foods can pretty much be what ever you would like because until dinner or bed time you will have plenty of time to burn the calories. The way to make the basket ball team or any thing you want to join is go in and enjoy yourself, know that you can do it, Don't think that you will fail think that you will succeed, don't stress yourself out tonight or all day tomorrow on whether you will make it or not! YOU CAN MAKE IT if you really want to!!!!|||The main thing you need to focus on is hustle. Coaches love constant hustle even if you're not that good offensively. Hustle, play strong, aggressive defense, and on offense...PASS THE BALL. Don't worry about your shot unless you're wide open. Coaches want to see hustle and team play. The first thing they look for is a player that can do all the little things to help them win. Guaranteed you'll get a spot if you do that. Good Luck!|||stretch. and a light job. maybe a mile, but at a slow pace.|||Squeeze some tennis balls so you can improve your catching. I know you don't wanna drop any passes in front of the head coach! Also, go in to tryouts with a attack mode-type attitude, and also be agressive. Look to help other players out on the court, play your game, and most of all...try your hardest. Also, don't stress too much today, relax and get some rest so you'll be at full strength, while everyone out on the court is yawning and stuff.|||eat pasta tonight for a good carb buildup and get plenty of rest|||dont walk in wearin headbands and all dat other fancy gear...trust me dat is da only reason i got cut last year...if u do dat then da coaches will think ur cocky and a kobe type of player(which coaches hate!!unless its da real kobe!!)|||play DEFENCE,DEFENCE,DEFENCE.
IF YOU DO THAT, CONGRATULATIONS YOUR ON THE TEAM|||HUSTLE AND EAT HEALTH|||Great advice from Bec!
Get plenty of sleep. Studies have shown that athletes competing with less than ten hours sleep the night before are more likely to get injured.
During the tryouts, hustle everywhere. Be the first in line for every drill, if you can. When running suicides, make sure you slap the lines with two hands, don't just tap them, or worse, pretend to touch them. There will be players dogging it, don't imitate them.
When on defense, stay low and in balance. If your player beats you, sprint back and try to get in front of him. If you get a chance to do so, take a charge. Don't go for steals and blocks while the player still has his feet on the ground.
Make your layups. Nothing drives a coach crazier than players that get to the rack and don't finish.
Don't get injured today! Just practice your layups (right and left hand), free throws and jump shots.|||definitely get about 10 uninterrupted, sound, hours of sleep! if you think that it's impossible for you to get this much because you might not be used to doing this, take a very hot shower after a long enough that it takes workout to wear you out till you feel like you're gonna drop, and then hit the hay with a full committment to do just that. lock your bedroom door if you have to avoid intrusions from rude and inconsiderate others, and even turn on a semi-loud fan for the entire night to block out distracting or possibly wakening noises and sweet dreams!!!!!!
good luck on making the team!|||Be aggressive and make sure you're skills are seen. It's like a job interview. They have to see in you what you know about yourself...show it to them. Once they've seen it though, don't get too flashy. Coaches are looking for players who play hard, dive for loose balls, defend, share the ball, follow their shots, rebound the ball, and last but not least listen to the coach! Do all of these things and you'll be fine. Remember, approach each day of the tryouts like you might get cut if you don't play the best basketball of your life...|||1. Carb Up! Have spaghetti, salad, and maybe some garlic bread for dinner.
2. For tomorrow, don't be afraid to pass the ball. Most coaches would rather have a player who will pass if they don't have a shot in their comfort zone, than one that will throw a wild shot.
3. WORK ON LAYUPS-every basketball tryout i have been to has eliminated about half the players that don't make many layups.
Hope this helps!|||Well i don't play basketball, but when I'm trying out for a softball team i make sure I'm well rested the night before. Being sleep deprived only makes you more nervous. Also, coaches love positive attitudes. Encourage others who are doing drills while you are in line for your turn. Give high-fives to others when they walk past you. Most coaches will take a mediocre player with a good attitude over a great player who is grumpy.|||Positive mental outlook that shows up outside. Cheer on your teammates and be a good sport. If someone gets knocked to the ground next to you, help them up. Listen to the coaches and don't be cocky. Teamplayers help team spirit which is another factor of the team's lineup. Get some sleep as well. You may be nervous/excited but it's needed because if you show up to basketball like a zombie, you won't be able to shoot accurately or run. It's good that you have been practicing fundamentals. Good luck in your tryout and give it your best shot.

What are good workouts for a basketball player?
I am almost 13, I am hoping to be playing basketball for my school this year. I have practice this month, try outs in november, and so forth. I am in good shape but you can always be stronger, and better. What are some good workouts?|||burn mats, pushups , runnn|||The best workout for basketball, is to play more basketball. If you want to be a paint player you can consider lifting weights for bulk and power, but other than that, just play more. Maybe attach an ankle or wrist weight while your shooting around and running, that will tune everything up just fine.|||While playing on a team, you have to run up and down the court for what seems like the longest time. Wht I found has helped me is running suicides. Or I'll run quick sprints for fast break situations. Hope this helps.|||Practice Ball handling and do leg workouts like lunges they really help|||runrunrunrunrunrunrunrunrun
What do people look for in basketball tryouts?
I am in middle school, about 5'8" and i want to try out for my basketball team. For the past 10 months or so i have been serious about my training, starting from complete novice up to now. Well now i can dribble decently, and can shoot consistently (but no threes :( ) but in games i struggle to find open shots or drive to the basket. Tryouts are soon so what would you guys say that i would need to work on?|||i agree with FAB...
don't do anything at half pace, you need to be going at full pace thjen some.
if you work hard and show that you can do the grunt work like rebound, d up etc you will get alook in.
ie how ariza first got a shot in the lakers rotation he did his part defensivly and he managed to be a key contributor for the lakers win last year.
so just prove to the coach that you will do anything it takes to be in the teamand once your in then you can use the time to work on the other things that you have trouble with.|||I agree with the other people before me, but they also look at some other thinks like how you work with the other players-aka don't be a ball hog. They also look at your skill and really want a player that is coachable and that will listen. Good luck!|||your coach will look for potential and hard workers. make sure that run the floor and NEVER walk because it pisses coaches off the most when they see lazy players walking. always keep a game face - you dont have to be a scorer just a hustler. good luck

What position should I play in Basketball?
I am in the eigth grade and I am planning on playing basketball next year, but there is a problem. I don't know what position to play! I am about 5'11 and 163, my vertical is about 23 inches, I am pretty fast for my grade, i make 5/5 of my layups and 4/5 of my free throws. please help!|||sf because yore fast ,tall and youre gonna receive alot of fouls and youre a good free trow shooter|||Point guard or shooting guard (1 or 2). What are ways to understand how to make offense basketball plays?
My offense rank i believe is a D, because i hardly understand them and i need some kind of web site if any one knows that can help me understand
I have no problem with Defense, because I was a good defense player in basketball
other thing to know, my college has no basketball team.
Can anyone give me anything on a web site that can help me understand offense a little better?|||The whole key to offense is to find the holes. Always take what the defense gives you. If you can't find a hole, then you must create one with a pick or a screen. Keep the ball moving and crash the boards.|||I doubt this helps but|||Remember to run screens and pick and rolls. Dont just stay in one spot , move around. The game shouldnt be too complicated and dont get intimidated by it. Let it run its course.|||I hope this helps. sundsqk321 said it for me.

What are the best socks for basketball after a sprained ankle?
I sprained my ankle a couple of months back and I need socks that will give support to my ankle in basketball. Any ideas?|||wait till your fully healed|||white
|||give it a rest, you should let your ankle heal
ps. Basketballers check out my :P
http://www.squidoo.com/basketballer/|||First you should wear thick socks so your shoes fit borderline tight. A better idea would be to go buy an ankle brace with your shoes. You need to tie your shoes tight so they aren't loose. And make sure your shoes are high tops.|||i don't think its really socks
tape it up or wear an ankle brace to prevent any more spains
rehab is the most important thing
stretch your calf muscle alot!!!!!!!! and do heel raises 3 sets of 30with a small bit of support from a table that is waist high go fast up and slow down
sit on a table so just a small part of your leg is off the table and spell your abc's without movement of ur leg just your ankle and foot
ice up yur ankle for a week
of course im no doctor!!!!
the best thing to do is rest and/or see a real trainer for rehab!!|||most socks wont do much. u need to wear an ankle brace while u play. if u want u can wear mid calf socks while u play, anything higher than ankle socks.

How can you get better at basketball while injured?
I have a knee problem and i can stand up on it and walk a little but i cant jump or run. It hurts alot and i dont want to just let it rest b/c i dont feel productive that way and im like addicted to basketball. Can you guys give me some ideas on what to do?|||yea like most of them said just lay down and shoot..... possibly hit a weight room doing arm exercises...... make sure you stretch your legs daily it will help your knee heal faster..........and just remember RICE rest, ice, compression, elevation...... trust me this works a few weeks ago i had a major ankle sprain and i'm getting pretty close to being back to normal|||i would continue to practice dribbling and if you can, stand still and shoot around. you can still work on passing and, if you are on a team, work on the plays. you could even write new ones for your team until you get better. dont try to push yourself to do more than your knee can handle because you want it to heal as soon as possible.|||If its a knee problem, you could work on your shot by laying down, and shooting the ball straight up. We do this at my basketball practice. It works! If you can lay down, just make sure someone is there just in case. You could also work on your arm strength. Just use some 5 or 10 pound weights.|||continue working out but only on the things you can do to stay out of injury this will help you stay fit. practice dribbling with a tennis ball it will improve your handles.

Basketball-In the 1st half of the game I play BAD,2nd half i play GREAT . How do i gain confidence at start?
How do i gain confidence in basketball, at the start of the game?|||just think about your crush, imagine that shes watching you play, and she has a fetish with men like you playing basketball, then you will have your confidence, worked for me one time.|||What i would do is say to myseI'm if i'm home that i'm at my home gym, im always here and playing and having a great time and just act like its a scrimmage with your friends. What i would do if im away is say to myself ok this is oujr opponent and these are the people standing in between the way of winning this cause ive played all the time this is just anouthe one of those times and that we will defeat your opponents...also warm up before the game and try to get yorself excited and pretend like you've already played a Half|||Firstly, do warmup exercises before the match. Try shooting the ball. Do not shoot 3 pointer first. First shoot the short range shot. Then slowly come to the 3 pt line and start shooting it. Then start running full court while dribbling. If you are that bad in 1st half, then think that first half is your everything. I play street in my school and if want to gain confidence in me, i do the hardest street move so that every one would think that i am a great player. Try it. It works for me. How should I properly condition for basketball that starts in 3 weeks?
I've spent about 15-30 minutes on the elliptical machine I have at my house, I've been eating better, and I've been playing basketball outside for a few hours with a couple friends. I'm 14. Do you think this is enough to condition myself?|||Hi! Here are a couple of trainings you can do to condition for your basketball camp:
- Try to do the most push-ups and set-ups you can (AM-PM)
- Run about 2-3 km/day
- Do some Plyometrics so you can jump higher
- Eat healthy food ( Fruits, Vegetables, Salads ...)
- Play Basketball ( Shoots, Rebounds, Jumps, Technique) If you are with friends, you can also practice your passing
- Scuicides
- You can also look for drills on the internet. That way, you can practice them to master them at your camp.
- Dribble a ball :)
There's surely a lot more but this is what I do everyday to be ready for my camp too. Hope this helps
Oh, and by the way, to answer your question, I don't think what you're doing is enough but it's better than nothing ;)|||No that's not enough at all. On the elliptical, common now... In bball tryouts they make you run full court 10 times at once as fast as you can. And its tryouts so you gotta do your best, there is no jogging. You need to do more than what is expected. If you Really want to condition yourself, run as hard as you can for as long as you can every day.|||No. Do suicides if you can. If not run like 2 miles a day. Eat healthy food. Play basketball.

How do you become a college basketball coach?
I am on the varsity basketball in my pretty large town, but am not good enough to play college. How can i become a coach?|||First off they require a College degree. Secondly while you are going to college try to get on the coaching staff as a volunteer or graduate assistant position. This will get you started on the right road. Similar to the way Lawerance Frank got to be an NBA coach for the NJ Nets.
Raised in Teaneck, New Jersey, Frank graduated from Teaneck High School, but never made the school's basketball team. Frank spent three seasons as an assistant coach for the Vancouver Grizzlies under Brian Hill. Hill would later serve as Frank's assistant with the New Jersey Nets. His responsibilities with the Grizzlies included scouting upcoming opponents as well as practice and bench coaching duties.
Before joining the Grizzlies, Frank served as an assistant coach at the University of Tennessee for three seasons under Head Coach Kevin O'Neill. Frank first worked with O'Neill as a volunteer staff assistant at Marquette University in 1992 and during his tenure, helped lead the Marquette Warriors to two NCAA tournament berths and a Sweet Sixteen appearance in 1994.
Frank earned his B.S. in education from Indiana University in 1992, where he spent four seasons as a manager for the Hoosier basketball team led by Bob Knight. He also holds an M.S. in education administration from Marquette.|||You have to know the plays of basketball, strategies, and how baketball is played. Here.

How many people can play basketball really well that wished they had played college basketball?
I'm 30 years old, and well, I never developed a jump shot until after High School. Later, I became really good. I joined the Army for 8 years, and then got out I'm now 30 years old. I can still play basketball exceptionally well. Sad truth is, no one is going to take a 30 year old college basketball player, or NBA rookie for that matter. I play for sport and fun now. However, anyone like me, and wish they had really went out for the NBA in hard work and pursuit?|||"Young veteran, I just plan to enroll into a major conference,

What's the difference between casual and athletic basketball shoes?
What is the difference? I bought a pair of Nike Air Prestige basketball shoes because they fit well and they were $65. I played basketball with the shoes today and they are great.|||I think casual shoe are more fashion like and athletic shoes are made the feel comfortable and durable for sport and thing of that sort.|||casual is the kind of shoe you wear to go somewhere.......and athletic is the one u should play basketball with. u shouldnt wear the casual shoe playing basketball cuz it wont give u the support u need in basketball and u might end up spraining ur ankle or something
|||The difference is how they're really designed and what they were intended to do.
A pair of proper athletic basketball shoes are designed to support you through the motions you'll typically go through while playing a game of basketball. This could be like more support to the arches or ankles, more cushioning to prevent impact to your joints and having a shoe sole that's designed to help you jump, land and change directions quickly and safely.
Typically, casual shoes are designed with style in mind and aren't designed necessarily to play in. Their soles, for instance, may not be designed to stablize your feet during landing from a jump and not provide extra support to your arches. They're also no designed to be as light, cushioned or supportive (in some part to lower the cost of producing the shoe).
While you can play basketball in pretty much any pair of comfortable shoes, a pair of proper basketball shoes will also help maximize your performance while lowering the likelihood of injury.

How do my chances look for my high school basketball team?
I am a freshman(boy) at a decent basketball school. I am planning on trying out for my freshman basketball team. Im in high school btw. I am a little overweight without much stamina but I believe to myself that I am a good player. I am pretty good on defense, and mid ranged shooting. I have made a list and there are about 8-10 people that I think will make it over me. Any tips would be greatly appreciated to make the team an actually play.|||Are you black? Your chance depends on the number of black people trying out. And if your black your chances increase.

How long does it take for basketball shoes to lose their elasticity?
I've heard about two years after they're manufactured, basketball shoes lose their elasticity and actually end up hurting your feet rather than helping. Is this true, and if not two years, how long?|||How often you wear them and how much you weigh and how hard you play are all factors (as well as growth) in how long your shoes last . i never had any last past 8 mens league games so it depends on the factors|||Im reall yinto basketball i've been playing for 8 years and i have never heard of that. i have never worn bball shoes that long cuz i grow out of them. How can I be an effective basketball player on my team?
I am on a youth basketball team with 12 guys on it. Most of the time, I will either be the 6th man or 7th man (that means i will be coming off the bench). But also at times, I will be starting. I basically play either shooting guard(most of the time) or small forward. I also am a good mid-range shooter and a pretty decent defender. But most shooting guards have to shoot the consistently.
So, how can I shoot 3-pointer consistently?|||I have the same problem right now. I'm always out around the 3 - Point line. That's my home on the court. I've just recently found my spot though. I'm the starting SG on my team, so my job is to make those shots. The last two games, I have found my spot. Personally, my best spot is just to right of the centre of the 3 - Point line. I take one step back with my left foot, drag my right one back, grip, and shoot, all in a matter of 1 second. You got to do it quick though, otherwise the defender gets there.|||My 3 point tip is to find your hotspot. That and to aim when you shoot. I mean really aim. People just look at the rim and think that they are aiming.... Aiming is when you think about the rim, don't think about your defender.|||practice

imagine making 3 after 3. spend 15 or 30 minutes a day doing this.|||This is a kinda dumb question.......You have to practice shooting 3 pointers of course. Also you must know your roll thatr you play on a team. The coach might just need you to husle.

I am in high school and love the game of basketball, I really want to be a coach one day and I really know the game, but how do I get a chance to become a coach? And I was wondering how much they get paid?|||well it would pretty hard to become a professional coach but u have to start off small like coach highschool then go to a college and be a trainer or an assiant coach and so on. but i would think a professinall coach would make over 1 million a year of there good enough|||If you are looking for basketball coaching career advice or open jobs this site is entirely dedicated to the matter: http://www.HoopCoach.org - GOOD LUCK!

How do I gain the respect of boy basketball players as a girl coach?
Hey there
I am coaching 5th grade boys with my father and some players are difficult to manage when they don't listen to me. How much do professional basketball players in Peru get paid?
I am looking to play professional basketball and I wanted to know how much basketball players in a top Peruvian basketball league get paid per year.|||I am not seeing a reliable answer to that online, but feel free to have a look at http://www.basketperu.com.pe/ they should be able to help and/or answer that.|||$5 million a year? That's ridiculous. The average NBA salary is only $5.3 million. Peruvian players are probably lucky to make $50,000 a year.|||Maybe 5 million a year? To become the top paid basketball players you need to join the NBA. Decent players get paid around 6 million easily.|||around 5million a year i would say

What foods to eat before basketball open gym?
I'm a junior in high school and I've been training to play basketball for 5 months now(weight lifting, jogging, running, etc), and open gym is tomorrow. I know to drink alot of water, but can someone tell me what type of foods I should eat? Should I eat anything? |||45 minutes before every game I eat:
2 Bananas, yogurt, 2 slices of white bread, and stump of grapes.
Keeps your energy up, and doesn't bog you down to much.
You need to figure out what's best for you though. I tried numerous amounts of combinations until I found the best match for me.|||There are a couple of answers to this depending on how long before you are talking about:
3-4 hours before the game you should take in quite a few carbs through things like pasta, bread, fruits, cereal, etc. And, as you said, water.
30-60 minutes before, though, you should take in anywhere from 25-100 carbs in the form of a snack. Carbohydrates will be your main source of energy. Bagels, Granola Bars, Sports Drinks, and Instant Breakfast may be beneficial.
I like thinks like yogurt, bananas, and oranges as well. They give you consistent energy. Be careful with raw fruits shortly before exercise, though, as they may make you gaseous. Everyone's body is different, so you'll have to experiment. But definitely get some carbs before and keep drinking that water!

What are some good ways to train for basketball during the offseason ?
Hello, I am 16 years old and i play for my schools basketball team, last year I started and scored around 10-15 points per game. I want to know does anyone know some routines or workouts that can help improve my vertical jump, my quickness, my stamina, and anything else that is essential for basketball. Any help is appreciated. Thanks|||lift weights!!seriously when i was playing b-ball my choach made us lift weights every tues. and thur. it REALLY helped out. it your bench press it will help your bribbling ALOT. if your bench press w/ your legs it helps with jumping.
for your quickness jog around for abour 20 min. every time u do this it helps your quickness.
i recommend drinking water and poweraid and gatoraid during a game. the night before a game eat spaghetti or something with noodles. it really helps alot.
watch basketball on tv or the kids in your neighborhood play. they may supprize u and show you things u can do in your game!
it may help if u join a off season workout group especially during the summer. if u lay around eating the whole time your stamina and quickness will go down (AND FAST)!!
hope this helped!!
; )|||join a good camp|||find drills somewhere like websites and camps|||just keep shooting and jumping. I take 100 free throws in the gym a day in the offseason and it has improved my shot and i got a lot more points a game.|||Hi,
You can actually double you vertical leap , using Luke Lowrey a vertical leap expert guide , . http://www.theverticalproject.co.nr , this guy grantees you will double your vertical leap

What types of activities do basketball players do to become tall?
Through observation, I have noticed that many basketball players are quite tall. A more specific question, how many times do I have to jump to grow an inch?|||For every 10 hours you hang upside down, you will grow approximitly an eighth of an inch. So if you want to grow an inch then yo'll need to hang upside down for atleast 80 hours. To make the time pass quicker, I would turn a TV upside down. This technique isn't proven to work, and you'll probably die of a brain hemorrhagic before your get through the 80 hours, however I think it will work just as good as jumping for height.|||Your quite observant there sherlock...practically all basketball players are genetically born to be tall. There are a rare number of short college and NBA players, but what they lacked in height, they more than made up with skill and talent.
Jumping does help you reach you max height potential, but overall, doing a million jumps isn't going to guarentee that you grow an inch.|||I myself am a 6' 8'' basketball player. I had to jump at least 70964 times in the air to become as tall as I am now.|||Milk. Drink lots of milk. results 6'2" at age 14.

What exercises can i do to improve my basketball shooting without a basketball hoop?
I am 14 i am fine with dribbling and layups i just want to know what i can to to practice jump shots without a basketball hoop.|||lay down with your ball aim at the ceiling right above you and shoot towards it. The ball should go straight up and straight down.|||always keep your shooting arm 90 degreesfo up to a wall and just shoot with one arm without your guiding hand and make your elbow in line with your target|||sit on your couch, watch tv,and just keep shooting the ball the proper way.if your righty, keep that elbow in and vice versa.and if you dont know how to really do a good shot, then have someone show you and just keep practicing.|||Hey there!
It is more than just shooting a basketball and keeping your elbow straight. There are many things you can do from your foundation, to your release to your follow through, but you must know how to do these kind of things and to do them the correct way.

How long does college basketball coaches take to response to recruiting?
Last week on Thursday I send out one of my basketball drills %26amp; skills dvd video to The Men's Head Basketball Coach of Miracosta College and now is been seven days ago I still haven't heard from the coach yet. How can I shoot a basketball accurately?
I'm 5 foot 5 and I am a girl who's 14. I wanna know how to shoot a basketball without using two hands, and actually get it in most of the time.|||exactly what micahm03 said, just practice constantly. Shooting is muscle memory, you can look that up and understand it more. Another thing.....dotn listen to people who tell you to "do this" or "do that" to your shooting form. Two of the best shooters in NBA history did not have "perfect"shooting form. Reggie Miller and Larry Bird. Stick with what your comfortable with. Accept advice of course, but you dont have to neccessarily stick to ONE "form" of shooting.|||why would u wanna shoot with one hand. if ur talking about a hook shot then do what that Patsfan guy said
|||practice your form close up %26amp; work your way out.a game u could play is you start close up by the block %26amp; everytim you make it you take a step back everytime you miss you take a step foward. make sure ur doing it with good form, have good balence, shoulder weighth square up use your legs%26amp;snap ur rist
|||(right handed)
take your left thumb and put it over your right thumb forming a "T".. doing this will give you perfect hand position on the ball.. position the ball on your forehead, that is the best release point.. keep your right elbow below your wrist, which will give you the best possible rotation.. and when shooting do not move your left hand at all..
with that said, you will also need to practice all the time.. just shoot shots less then 10', from all angles, slowing increasing the distance.. you should not be shooting further then a free throw if you have to jump to do it.. stay close til you can shoot free throws just bending at the knee, and shooting.. it will take you about 2 months or so to become really consistent..
using this form actually increased my range about 5'.. after the two months or so getting used to it.. increased my left hand to 15', and my right hand to pro 3 pointer range.. when i used two hand i always ended up with a side spin, which caused slightly off line shots to have no chance after hitting the rim or backboard.. your rotation should be just like a ball rolling toward you.. you will get what they call a "shooters bounce, or shooters roll"
reverse it when using your left hand..
i started with 25 shots, each hand, each day, after warming up, and playing for about two hours.. your muscles learn better when your tired, and will increase your range if you do this right before leaving.. also it was 25 shots in a row, each hand.. starting over when missing.. you will be amazed after two months if you do this..
i hope this was helpfull|||ok... to master the one hand shooting.. which i can say im pretty good at.. you must 1st take shots with 2 hands..and flick ur wrist like ur taking a normal shot.. but let ur shooting hand take it more so. after a few attemps.. than just basically act as if u were taking a regular shot ... take ur left or right hand off the ball ... and just flick ur wrist with that one hand... after hours and days of practicing you should become more accurate with 1 hand shots..|||Well it's not fail proof but when I was younger I found that when you flick your wrist and push the ball off with your fingers follow through and make sure you're pointing in the direction of the basket... helped me. Hope this helps you.|||Practice practice practice!

Does your basketball crossover get better with practice? What about a between the legs dribble?
From my left hand to my right hand, I can dribble between the legs. After my right hand receives the ball, I have difficulty accelerating towards the basket. If I dribble from my right hand to my left hand, between the legs, I will lose control of the basketball....
I never can deceive anyone with my crossover. Usually, I end up getting the ball stolen.
Does between the legs dribbling and the crossover get better with practice? Is it mostly genetics that make someone good at those two basketball moves?|||yes it does i practiced crossover and dribbling in between the legs for a while and i got a lot better my crossover is convincing and practice makes perfect its not genetics i use to be horrible at basketball i got a ton better with practice also watch videos of like A.I. and other players who use crossover a lot that can help u too|||I'm wondering about this too.|||yes definately, just keep on practicing in slower motion so you know what you need to do, you are probably going to fast for yourself, just wacth some videos and never lose hope. I know because im on a team :D|||all i can say is practice... work hard every day going through your legs. maybe u should try to fake the defender out or something... after u practice a lot ask a friend or family member to guard you. best advice that i can give is don't give up... keep working hard and never quit.

How to prepare myself for basketball team tryouts that are coming up soon?
I want to be in fit basketball shape by the time the try outs come around. I heard it would be around December.
What should I start doing now to be ready by then?|||Prey to the gods that u can kick some ***.....oh ya working out prolly wouldnt hurt|||Running is essential to make basketball teams! Coaches love players who run an hustle hard. Also, free throws and good defense.
|||RUN!!!!! And defensive shuffles.|||You need to be light on your feet. I would run every other day until the tryouts. And then also practice free throws.|||My try-outs are coming up too. I am going after school 3 days a week for 2 hours to practice. I have also been shooting three-throws out in my front yard. Me and my friend are going to probably start running around the neighborhood soon!
Good Luck!|||I would say get use to running. Try running a mile or so to get you use to moving all the time. I would also recommend practice free throws. Try playing in some pick up games if available so you can get comfortable with the concept of team basketball. Also, if you dont know the coach or if you do contact them and tell them you are going out for the team when tryouts come valuable and you wanted to know what they would recommend u do.

How can i maintain acceleration and quickness for basketball while running cross country?
Right now i am training for cross country. After a couple long runs, i feel like my first step, while playing basketball, is lost. I am looking for a way to work out that allows me to keep the endurance gained from the long cross country runs while saving the quickness, agility, and vertical leap needed for basketball.|||Doing some drills when you get home would help you with dribbling and shooting. But while your out running at cross country practice, try acting like there is a gaurd in front of you and he is on a fast break. He is going for the winning basket and your team is only up by 1. if he makes this layup they win. You have to get in front of him and you have only 33 seconds left in the game. you have to foul him on the ground because your team is not in foul trouble, to do this you have to get in FRONT of him. Try drills like that. and maybe while running think of plays you can practice while at home. Also, if you keep working on the skills then the runnning will come and stay. I played track for 3 years and I just play all year basketball and I'm still in the running shape. Just keep trying the Acting part of the player in front of you. Trust me it works. Hope that helps. BASKETBALL ROCKS! Stick with it.|||you have trained your slow twitch muscle fibers , in basketball you have to gain a huge power in your fast twitch fibers , with anaerobic training . heavy weight training with low number in reps ( max 6 ) , practicing with ligher weights and lifting them quickly , and at last plyometrics is your soloution , i think bodybuilding.com is a usefull site , search explosive power you will find out , also dr.squat has a 21 week jumping program that will help you produce a large force in a samall amount of time . . .

avoid of luke lowery he's a punk cheater !|||Okay here's what you need to do. Do calf lifts to exercise your calf muscles to help with explosiveness and jumping ability and jump lots of rope (about 1,000 to 2,000 a day) to also increase foot speed and quickness. If you go to a weight room they should have a machine that will help you with your calf lifts by letting you apply more weight to help make your calves stronger. Aside from doing those things you should be good because running cross country builds your upper legs, but to get your first step back again, work on the lower legs a lot and you'll be much more explosive.

Where can you find good basketball shoes for the cheapest price online?
I am trying to find the cheapest online store for some good quality brand basketball shoes. I live outside of the US but would like buy from the US.

I see that you're conscious about your finances. There are lot more tips on finances and buy and sells at http://insale.org/ . How does scoring for fantasy basketball work?
This is my first year to have a fan. basketball team. Does it work like hockey or football or is it different?. Someone please explain.|||Fantasy basketball works differently in many respects.
There is head to head leagues, or roto leagues. The fantasy point idea is only for football, and basketball uses catagories and raw stats.
Say a person, Paul Pierce, makes 4 3-pointers, then you get credited for 4 3-pointers on the week. In a head to head league, to win a catagory, you must have more total 3-pointers for the week.
Check out ziguana if you want more strategy advice|||i have no idea, sorry :(

Should I keep my bad basketball cards in my collection?
I am trying to start a basketball card collection. I am planning on making frames for certain teams or players. But what about my useless nobody cards? Should I include them with the team in there frame? Or set them aside in what I call my "Nobody Book"?|||You can create a new section called the "Nobody Club" or something. How to get good at basketball during the offseason?
I really want to get better at basketball but I have no clue how. I was hoping if any of you guys have tips, drills, or workouts that can help me take my game to the next level. Please i need help because I really want to make the team next year.|||Go to the park with some friends and watch how the nba players play|||PRACTICE!!!|||well what you can do is go to a local gym or courts and shoot like 1000 baskets a day. just practice fundamentals like shooting, dribbling, things like that. what also helps is watching college and NBA games, make sure you focus on the position you play. It helps a lot. Then join a park league to help put all those together. Finally, watch videos online on how to work on certain skills to make yourself better, you do that and youll be on the squad in no time|||Just practice a TON. Go out and dribble between cones or anything else you find you can use. Just get a TON of shots up over and over. If you can find someone to rebound and pass for you that will help you get alot more shots in a lot less time. Practice layups because you can't miss those.|||join a league|||Practice a lot and use the shot you're most comfortable to use don't try a different type of shot because it will throw off all your shots.

What is the difference between basketball and volleyball shoes?
My friend wants to use her volleyball shoes for basketball since she cant buy new shoes at the moment.
Is that ok?|||Yeah. it's cool.

How do I keep my basketball shoes from slipping?
Today a played a basketball game on a rubber floor. I slipped all over the place and I really don't want it to happen again.....I have two more games on sunday and I don't want to get hurt for my school season. Are there any good ways to keep my shoes from slipping?|||Basketball shoes that are old and flat on the bottom can have very little grip on the court.
So you can use one of my ghetto methods, which is pouring cola on the bottom of your kicks, BUT not to much just a lil bit.
Here are some other methods, washing your shoes can improve your basketball shoe grip greatly. Take a scrubby and some soapy water and go at it. Hold the sole facing down if you do not want any water getting into the inside of the shoe. Scrub the bottom sufficiently with the soap, and then let the shoes air dry.
I hope my answer has helped :D|||you need new shoes.
or well you can just you know wipe them with your hands when youre playing.

What should i take to Wyoming for a basketball tournament?
So, my high school basketball team goes to Wyoming during the summer for a tournament. We go from June 26th-June 28th. Im from Colorado and i have never been to Wyoming, so i really don't know what its like there, so i don't know what to bring. Obviously i know what to bring basketball wise, like my uniform and stuff but other than that i have no idea. Suggestions?|||Depends on what you're doing while there. For sure pack summer clothes, but you'll also want a coat, a sweatshirt or lighter jacket, and jeans, plus a hat. If you drive yourself rather than taking a bus with your school be sure to plan for anything, tools, spare tire, extra fluid. Towns are few and far between and their is little cell reception if you aren't in a town or city.
How much does it cost to buy a basketball jersey at the arena?
How much does it cost to buy a basketball jersey at the basketball game (the arena?)
Does it usually cost more than buying it online (like an NBA store online?)
Are there any websites to buy authentic jerseys online, for cheaper? And I know some teams got new jerseys this season, are they usually the new ones, or the ones from previous season.
Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks!!|||What up jenada,
Basketball jerseys are usually more expensive at the arena. You can go to NBA.com or you can google and search around. But at least you get a good idea of what's real or not- so you don't get ripped off because there are a lot of "knock-offs".
I go to ebay to buy some of my jerseys or i'll wait till a sporting good store is having a clearance, etc. Ebay is good price wise but you have to look at the pictures closely.
Good luck,
Nickster|||The truly authentic ones are all pretty expensive, upwards of $200 whether you buy online or at the arena. Authentic is authentic, there's no major price differences when buying new. you may be able to find something on Ebay.
Good luck|||proball.com has cheap basketball jerseys, never buy the jerseys at the stadium cause it'll be like3 times more expensive.
I don't know about the NBA store but I'm sure it would be cheaper then at the stadium.

How can we reduce the injury when playing basketball?

How long is a good basketball training session?
I want to know how long a good and efficient training session for basketball is to be able to increase shooting and dribbling skill.|||Depends, if you are quick and learn fast I would say 45min to an hour a Day. If you blow, longer. Just remember. Practice does not make perfect. Perfect Practice makes Perfect. If you shoot 100 free throws and air ball all 100, did you acomplish anything? I used to stand outside until I made 25 foul shots in a row. Setting goals is better than time limits.|||Well, if you're really dedicated i would take up to 3 hours.
what i usually do is make 50 free throws in the begging then do a casual lay up warm up and then we do this dribble warm up series that goes like this. skipp with right hand down and back then left hand down and back. then skip cross over. then just between the legs down and back while walk. (pick up the pace as you get better) then behind the back. then between the legs, behind the back. the skipping may sound dumb but i became a great ball handler off of it.
also we do the 1:10(minute) drill its were you have to touch 9 lines in that time. if you are quicker you might want to decrease the time. but pretty much just try to dribble as much as possibly. wen ever im at home i just have a basketball IN my hand passing it between my legs.

How to get fit for basketball?Pls ppl who consider themselves educated in this sport and pls read the details?
Now some people are telling me to run long distances for stamina while other people are telling me that running long distance would actually be harmful because basketball is a fast paced game . So I'm supposed to find some sort of happy ratio between endurance and short bursts. Can any1 suggest a distance which wud be beneficial for this particular sport andante I lift light weights more times or lift heavy weights but fewer times . Pls help|||First and foremost I must applaud you for taking a further step for going over and beyond regarding getting your body into basketball shape. Addressing the distance, what would be ideal is nothing that exceeds 3 miles, 2-3 times a week for optimum endurance response. What would be ideal in my opinion would be to run 2-5 200's and then split your workout between 40-50 yard dashes with good ready positions, starting with an explosive 3 step get-out, fingers open, hip flexors down, head down, pure explosion, running each of those between 5-7 times. I would also endorse incorporation plyometric explosion movements into your workout.
Its great to see that your using weights. Remember to work the big muscle groups...shoulders, back, legs, should be your primary focus. Try to use a lot of your natural body weights by doing dips, pull-ups, and push-ups, with an extreme focus on your core area.
I would also recommend, shocking your system by stimulating it with irregularity workouts not letting muscle memory become consistent, thus you will get better performance and productivity and responses from your body and performance.
Enclosing, I would add resistance training as an option. Remember, your body is ready to perform to its max level. Ensure to give your body a qualifying protein supplement to assist with your overall productivity. Good luck.

How many ways can seven basketball players of different heights line up ?
In how many ways can seven basketball players of different heights line up in a single row so that no
player is standing between two people taller than he is?
Please show how you arrived at answer.|||It is 64, and this is easily shown by induction. (No combinitorics or long proofs are necessary!)
{The number of ways for k players is 2^(k-1) }
Each time a new player enters the line, the number of ways to line them up doubles.
Let n(k) be the number of ways for k players.
We can assume without loss of generality that the (k+1)st player is taller than all the others.
n(k+1) = 2n(k), since for each of the n(k) ways, we can place the (k+1)st player in one of only two places, namely immediately next to the kth (tallest) player on either side of him. If placed anywhere else, there will be at least one player between two taller players.
Since n(1) = 1, n(2) = 2, n(3) = 4, etc,
n(7) = 2^6 = 64|||did everybody miss the "no player is standing between two people taller than he is" part of the question?
**********
the answer's 64. i've got two methods to do it.
method 1 (the user-friendly idiot-proof method)
picture seven individual platforms in a row for the players to stand on (this's what i pictured anyway :p) these are the seven platforms:
A B C D E F G
now assume the players are of height 1ft, 2ft, 3ft, 4ft, 5ft, 6ft, 7ft. actually, honestly speaking, i don't really remember the last time i saw a 1-footer, 2-footer or 3-footer playing basketball, but we can ignore that i guess.
let's also assume that they go up the platforms in ascending height order, i.e. 1-ft goes up first, then 2-ft, then 3-ft... so they don't all rush to choose their favorite platforms at the same time and create chaos. note that this assumption does NOT change the outcome of the question in any way.
now take a look at Mr. 1-foot, where can he stand? he's only got two choices: A or G. if he stands anywhere from B to F he'd be sandwiched by taller guys, 'cause he's the shortest, this should be pretty obvious.
so from this observation we discover a general rule: the shortest shrimp (no offense to the vertically-challenged) ALWAYS stands on one of the far ends of the line.
case 1:
now say 1-ft chooses to go to platform A, so we're left with B~G unoccupied. who's the shortest among the 6 now? none other than Mr. 2-feet. so according to that rule thingy we discovered, he can only stand on B or G.
case 2:
similarly, if 1-ft chooses to go to platform G, we're left with A~F unoccupied, and so 2-ft can only go to A or F.
so 1-ft has 2 choices, and for each choice he makes, 2-ft has 2 choices too, and for each choice 2-ft makes, 3-ft will have 2 choices too, and so on and so forth.
here's a little catch: when we reach 6-ft, he has 2 choices too. after he makes his choice, 7-ft does NOT have a choice, he'd be forced to take that last unoccupied platform.
so it's 2*2*2*2*2*2 = 2^6 = 64
the first 2 represents the number of choices 1-ft can make
the 2nd 2 represents the number of choices 2-ft can make
...
the 6th 2 represents the number of choices 6-ft can make
7-ft has no choice to make so there's only one possibility, but multiplying by 1 is stupid so we'll ignore it.
i'll try my best to create a tree diagram to explain this if you still have trouble understanding.
......................................鈥?br>
.................................___A_鈥?choices
...........................__B__...._G鈥?choices
..........................C.......G...鈥?choices
...
the underscores are the branches to the letters below it.
method 2 (the "cheating" method):
think of it this way: rewrite the whole question, but change 7 players into 1 player, i.e. how many ways can 1 player line up so that he is not sandwiched by taller players, it's a stupid question that comes with the answer 1. duh, there's only ONE way to arrange 1 player - he stands alone.
now try 2 players: 2 players can't sandwich each other - you need 3 to form a "sandwich", so the only arrangements are (1,2) and (2,1), so the answer is 2 different arrangements.
now 3 players: there's only one requirement - 1-ft can't stand in the middle, so (1,2,3), (1,3,2), (2,3,1), and (3,2,1) are possible arrangements, thus there are 4 arrangements.
4 players: remember the "shortest guy must stand on ends" rule? (1,2,3,4) (1,2,4,3) (1,3,4,2) (1,4,3,2) (2,3,4,1) (2,4,3,1) (3,4,2,1) (3,4,1,2) - a grand total of 8 combinations.
you can try 5 if you want, but i find it inconvenient to type 16 combinations here, with 5 numbers each, so yeah.
notice a pattern?
1 player --%26gt; 1 arrangement
2 players --%26gt; 2 arrangements
3 players --%26gt; 4 arrangements
4 players --%26gt; 8 arrangements
can you guess the next?
5 players --%26gt; 16 arrangements
6 players --%26gt; 32 arrangements
7 players --%26gt; 64 arrangements!
and we've got it. to put it more mathematically:
(n) number of players gives 2^(n-1) arrangements.
**********
oh no, i don't know why my tree diagram looks like that, sorry about that.|||this is fairly simple stats:
7 * 6 * 5 * 4 * 3 * 2 * 1 = 5040 ways
you have the first space were you can choose 7 or the 7 players to stand there
the second space you now only have 6 of the 7 players who can stand there
the third spot 5 of 7 and so forth
to add in standing between two people taller than him...i don't totally know if we have enough information about that, because then one of the players (the shortest would always have to be at one of the ends......so then we would have to keep those spots fixed...however the shortest guy has two spots he could be at.)|||5040 ways|||This is my second try:
The total # of arrangements that satisfy the requirement of nobody between two taller players is:
64
there are 7 positions for the tallest player. If he is on either end the other playres must line up by height so there is 1 way each. 2 positions * 1 way = 2.
If the tallest is 1 position in from the end there are 6 players who can be on the short end and the others must be in line so there are 6 ways each. 2 ways to be one 1 * 6 = 12
If the tallest is 2 positions in there are 6*5/2*1 = 15 ways to select 2 players on the short end, in height order. 2 ways to be 2 in * 15 = 30.
If the tallest player is in the middle position there are
6*5*4/3*2*1 = 20 ways to arrange the other 6 around him
in height order = 20.
Answer = 2 + 12 + 20 + 30 = 64 arrangements.

Question for basketball players. How much would you pay a month for a gym with basketball courts only?
I go to 24 hour fitness often and I would normally have to wait an hour until I can play a game on a weekday night.
