How to train for basketball at home with no basketball equipment?

I do not have a goal or any outside space and I have to get ready for basketball season. So how can I practice to get good.|||Awww, that's kinda sad...but anyway....you could do what I used to do which is take a small hand ball or "pinky ball" as we called them - because they were pinkish in color - and lay on your bed and just bounce that ball off the wall directly across from you and try and catch it every time.

This will help greatly with your hand and eye coordination which will aid in passing and catching the ball and will also sharpen your reflexes.

Toss that ball against the wall faster and faster or harder and harder the better you get at it, it'll keep you interested and help you further with your reflexes.

Basketball involves A LOT of running so any cardio you could do - like quick relays or sprints up and down your block or even your driveway - will help your lungs expand and your heart get used to the increased blood flow to it so your stamina will increase too. This will help you stay in the game a lot longer without becoming winded.

Obviously, you could also take that small ball and practice your aim with it..toss it in the garbage from very far distances...that'll help a bit.

And of course, if you could even just go buy a basketball without a hoop or court, you'll be so much farther along during a real game if you could just spend hours at home bouncing it and practicing passing it between your legs and also running with it outside while dribbling.

Really, you should just go ask your parents to buy you a ball. They're not that expensive and they'll last for pretty much ever.|||YMCA or a facility with a basketball court. You can't do it in the house.|||go to the ymca

What position on a basketball team do you consider to be the most important? and why?

i know basketball is a team sport, but each position is unique and specialize in certain things that other positions don't.

So, what position on a basketball team do you consider to be the most important? and why?|||I'd say center. Red Auerbach always said that if you are building a championship team, you need a great center. Who am I to argue with genius? I think PG is an important position as well. However, I don't think you need a great PG to win a championship. I think you just need a good floor leader that makes good decisions and gets the ball to the open man. Derek Fisher wasn't a great PG during the Lakers 3 peat. Rondo wasn't a great PG last season. Stockton and Kidd never won a championship. Of course there are exceptions to winning without a great center. The Bulls never had one during their dynasty. But, I think it makes winning a lot easier, when you have a dominant big man.|||on offense a pg because he's like a quarter back of basketball and on defense i say center becasuse his job is to protect the paint and guard his man

|||All positions are important, but i think any kinds of posts are the most importantt. They are most definitely the most powerful on the team, and the tallest. They always are in charge of getting rebounds, boxing out, etc. If the point guard doesn't stop the ball, the posts are in charge of getting them in an uncomfotable position.

Point guards are also important, mostly because they are in charge of getting the ball down the court, and stopping the ball so the other team doesn't get an open shot. The point guards are probably going to be the best dribblers on the team, and they can also be the best shooters. They are in charge of getting back on defense in case the defense is about to make a fast break.|||At most levels of play, it's probably the point guard, for the reasons everyone else has mentioned. In the NBA it switches to center, because there's so much more emphasis on defense in the pros. Look at your title winners for the last 10 years... every one had a dominant low-post player.|||The center. all great teams have a good center. There the controllers of the defense. In close 2nd is the PG. But anybody can birng the ball up the court.

EDIT: It also depends on the team. Im a center and my point gaurd sucks. He's def not the most important.|||shooting guard... someone has to shoot the basketball to win and the shooting guard has much more opportunity to do so especially when it's tight to bring the ball down to the men in the post area|||Small forward because they have to do better defense than anyone else, and they have to help the team with scoring, assists, and rebounds. Theyre like the heart of the team|||point gaurd because he controls the team has to be a leader and can score and set teamates up and the small foward because they are so versatille good defenders and scorers|||Point guard because he handles the ball and facilitates the offense. But obviously the star player (that's not PG) should outshine his point guard.|||point guard because he sets up plays and tells other players where to go and what to do

he is the mastermind of all the plays|||point guard, he's like the quarterback of the team|||Point Guard.

What are the major basketball leagues across the world?

With attendance figures and player salary in mind, what are the biggest basketball leagues/associations in the world? NBA would probably be top, but I've heard the European leagues are very strong over there too. If you could give me the top 5 basketball leagues in the world, what would they be? What are some good basketball work outs to teach to kids from ages 6-12?

My basketball team is running a basketball camp, and I'm not too sure what work outs to make the kids (ages 6-12) do, I mean, I don't want them running and doing lay ups the whole time. How do I earn a girls college basketball scholarship from high school?

It is the summer and next year I will be a senior. I have only this summer and next season to earn a basketball scholarship. I need to know how to get recognized. I am aware that colleges look for what fits the team, but I need to set goals and need to know what are the ideal stats of a high school basketball scholar. Also please inform me of some good basketball colleges for girls? Thank You!|||You should use this summer to work on your weaknesses, where it be defense, rebounding, or shooting. If you improve your weakness from last season and maintain your strengths, you will have the total package of the game. This summer you should also participate in AAU (Amateur Athletic Union)basketball as well as a few summer camps to get your name out there. AAU players are highly recruited by big-time state schools, such as Tennessee, LSU, and UNC.

As far as stats go, it depends on your position. All college recruiters want scorers, but you have to bring something else to the table. Point guards bring assists and/or steals. Forwards rebounds and centers rebounds and blocks.

Talk to your HS coach too. He/she would be able to help you contact college coaches and tell you whether or not he/she thinks you are ready for the next level. He can tally up your stats and fill out multiple recruiting questionaires on colleges' websites. (KEY) Make sure your GPA and SAT's are okay too. It's not like football players, where schools are lenient on academics. If you don't get recruited to a D1 school or school of your choice, try a junior college and transfer to a bigger basketball program.

How do you play basketball without a net?

The basketball net I ordered is on backorder :-o and won't be coming for a week or so. I need something to do. How do you play basketball without a net?|||well if you are looking to improve your game just dribble cuz everyone needs to dribble whether they are a point guard or center. if you get bored with that then find a wall or something pick a spot and just practice your form shooting just make sure ur doing your form right otherwise it does nothing and if you are a center then practice your low post footwork...if none of these work then just work on your athleticism and work out.|||suggestion #1: You could always make a net using even cardboard, and maby work on something other than shooting like tricks.

What Basketball is the best for someone that plays on a varsity level both in and outdoors?

I have a Wilson and a Spalding basketball. They all go flat after a while and pumping them up every week becomes pointless. Im a girl so it has to be 28.5. How is basketball today different from basketball from the past?

THIS IS URGENT, I might come across as irresponsible and such but I have a concise report due tomarrow on basketball and I really don't know much neither can I find much. SO can someone please tell me how basketball from today differs from basketball from then of the past. And if you can, please mention a player, coach, ref., etc might have made an impact on basketball, and if you do please mention what she/he did.|||Before was more of a finesse game, now is much more physical and grueling since the goal is to make the more easy close range shots that you can. Now the average height of the players is a minimun of 6'3 in many cases. In the past someone 6'3 was considered a big man of at least a forward. The skill level of players today is off the charts and that's the reason why I think many players are so underrated because to shine in a league today with so many talent is just too diffucult as well as winning a Championship. Many people don't realize that. Players that have made a big impact are : Bill Russell, John Havlicek, Jerry West, Earl Jones, George Gervin, Dr. J., Larry Bird, Magic Johnson , Wilt Chamberlain, Kareen Abdul Jabbar, Shaquille Oneill, Michaael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Charles Barkley, Dennis Rodman, Karl Malone, Hakeem Olajuwon, Tim Duncan, and and many more but this guys between an elite group that does noit reach the 100 players in total.

Coaches: I think Red Auerbach is the one who is worth talking more about.|||Two quick things. The three point shot is a relatively recent change (didn't used to have it), and people are much bigger, so that dunking is very very common compared to say, 50 years ago.

My major complaint and nothing that applies to your work, is that traveling is apparently ok now. If you watch the NBA, multiple steps and switching pivot foot happens all the time, and that is supposed to be against the rules. So I don't watch the NBA. Used to. Buncha showboat crap now.

Want some names? Red Auerbach, John Wooden for coaches,

Players, there are so many, but you'd have to mention Michael Jordan as probably one of the most impact people of them all, and there have been many, Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Bob Cousy, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson (hard not to say them together), Dr J. You look them up if you don't know.|||well it is different from along time ago because there are 3 pointers and this year the college 3 pointer got moved back there are also alot of people who think and try to do it all such as behind the back passes to noone and not passing in a 3 on 2 fastbreak. there are also alot more dunks and outside shots. some players that make differences are kobe bryant and lebron james in the nba because they are really good and also yao ming becaue he is 7'2''+ and he is really good also shaq who is another good bigman. some players in college are blake griffin, with out him oklahoma was 0-2 and curry for davidson took them all the way to i think the sweet 16 but he is an amazing outside shooter. the last one would be tyler hansbourogh or however you spell it and he is and awesome post player and he can also make 3 pointers so he is another good player.|||basketball today is much more exciting because of the blocks of bill russell, the dunks of wilt chamberlain , and pure athleticism are what changed the game

basketball in the past was mainly fundamentals (looked a lot like the pre candace wnba), after the 60's and 70's it became a much faster stronger game

the best example of the progression of basketball can be found in the boston celtics|||Now there is alot more dribbling and more fancy moves. Before, they swinged the ball and shot jumpers. Now they drive to the lane and get fouled witha dunk. Also, if you are talking about the very beggining, there was no backboard =o|||Well these days if you're driving to the paint you better expect that you're going to get hit real hard, especially if you're going for a dunk|||The rules are different, %26amp; so are the referees.|||Its played differently its much more competitive especially the NBA, It is actually fun now.|||only one big difference

the past was the MJ Era|||MJ isnt playing...|||Their shorts are way longer than before! Haha...|||Everyone has kinda touched on things that have evolved the game of basketball so I'll just try to add my 2 cents. The shot clock was revolutionary in making the game faster and competitive.George Mikan was the first significant big man in the NBA(Minneapolis Lakers) and set the ground work for what was to come. The 3 point line was actually adopted from the now defunct ABA(American Basketball Association) which was more of a running style league as opposed to the slowdown game of the NBA in the 70's.Some of the ABA teams joined the NBA after it folded and blessed the league with Julius"Dr.J"Erving who I truly believe besides Wilt Chamberlain was one of the most iconic figures in basketball history....until Chicago drafted a guy from North Carolina. For most of NBA history there were only two referees on the court but they had to add a third because of all the missed action. Please mention that Wilt Chamberlain is the only man in NBA history to have scored 100 points in a game, because that's unheard of.Also mention that the Boston Celtics are the leagues most storied franchise which was lead by Red Auerbach(head coach). It was customary for years to play "straight up" defense in the NBA,but because Shaquille O'Neal was so forceful the league now allows zone defenses. You must mention Michael Jordan who made people look at basketball very differently when he came into the league.Jordan played basketball better than anyone does anything else. There is no comparison to what he did for basketball as far as marketing,TV ratings, and the explosion of NIKE.Now there's more coverage on the NBA.You can get your info from just about any sports source.Back in the day half of these stories would have been hush-hush.Thanks to ESPN's evil empire they have taken the purity out most mysteries.Everyone is a target now.Back in the day players were more fundamentally sound, but now these guys have more athleticism, but lack basic b-ball skills.I missed a lot of things, but I hope you can use what I gave you.Good Luck.|||today, with most teams, it's more about their franchise player or player(s). Not that back in the 80's n 90's with Bird, Dr. J, Magic and the rest, it's just that THEY were more successful because it was more team oriented, now, in general, with your LeBrons, Kobes, and Iversons, it's like a big stat sheet now...it might be entertaining through some of the reg. season, but come playoff time, the best who come out on top are team players, ie Duncan and the Spurs, Shaq and w/e team he played for, right now, i see CP3, D-Will and Dwight Howard's teams being consistently successful in the postseason. Jordan had Pippen, Kukoc, and Purdue for most/ all six title runs. Magic, Kareem, James Worthy, Byron Scott, consistently won because they stuck 2gether on one team. Same with Bird, McHale, Parish or Dr. J, Malone and Dawkins. Now, if u want more money, u can sign with a w/e team and become their "star" player, ie AI. Sixers did better almost immediately after he left. Same with Denver, because Chauncy Billups understands team play wins titles. Detroit sucks now because they lost their team leader, and got a ballhog instead. Before, even star players knew that you can't win by yourself, that's why Kobe might get close 2 another title, AFTER Pau Gasol came over, and Derek Fisher. One thing that HASN'T changed...you can't win without a dominant big man. Centers win titles. Jordan was the exception...him and Pip. Kobe, no the Lakers won't do 2 well in the long run without a dominant center. Pau Gasol is among the WORLD's best, but Shaq will eat him down in the paint 8 out of 10 times. LeBron has a good rebounder, and Z's strong defensively, but not dominant. Tyson Chandler, Dwight Howard, and maybe Chris Bosh, have a chance to be in the title runs for the next 10 years. If they stick with the team play

Why are basketball sneakers generally heavier than other type of athletic sneakers?

Since basketball sneakers are generally heavier than other type of athletic sneakers, is it ok to wear lighter feeling sneakers (running, cross training, etc) to play basketball? What are the risks of doing so? Thanks!|||Basketball players do a lot more jumping, stopping, and turning then players in most other sports. Also, basketball players tend to be a lot taller, with longer legs that put additional physical stress on their feet. Basketball shoes have extra support for the heel, arch, and ankle, so they weigh more.

If you wear lighter shoes with less support, you may be adding to your risk of injury. That really depends on your physical makeup.|||They are generally heavier because most of them support your ankles so you don't get injured if you jump at a weird angle or something like that.

When playing basketball, what's the difference between running shoes and basketball shoes?

Like what are the advantages and disadvantages of wearing both when playing basketball?|||um i personally think that they vary differently as you go up higher in the level of your play. ill list the pros and cons of wearing basketball shoes and running shoes.

basketball shoes help protect your ankles, the most vulnerable part of your body when you jump for a rebound, go for a layup, or jump in general. basketball shoes also sorta help stabilize your feet for a shot.

but basketball shoes are generally bigger and heavier, and because protection is a double edged sword, it avoids making quick, long strides on your first dribble. and with basketball shoes being heavier, it might slightly impede your jump height and your speed and agility.

running shoes are generally light and provides you with slightly better speed, agility and quickness compared to basketball shoes. but running shoes are considerably more vulnerable to your ankles... compared to basketball shoes.

so the skinny is that when i just play leisure basketball, i wear running shoes because you're not going to need to move around as much (rebounds in particular) and running shoes are better insulated so your feet dont stink as much (is it just me?). and also, its the shoe youre usually wearing.

but in competition basketball, i really prefer to wear the basketball shoes because no matter how good you are, if your ankles are busted, you cant play. and i dont wanna take that risk.|||yeah I'vee played basketball for about 4 years and I have owned a whole bunch of basketball shoes and running shoes and the difference from my perspective is that basketball shoes have higher sides to protect your ankles and running shoes are curved in a very slight "U" shape.

|||Both work if you're just shooting around but in a competitive game you should definitely use basketball shoes. Basketball shoes are designed specifically with the sport in mind so that you ankles are protected from easy sprains on defense and the shoes also protect you from unwanted shock when jumping for rebounds. Also basketball shoes are made to grip the indoor court nicely so you don't slide around while running shoes are better for outdoor tracks/fields. Personally I need basketball shoes to play because you gotta look the part right?|||Running shoes are specifically made for running. They are lightweight so you don't have to lift up that much weight. They are also low-cut at the ankles. Basketball shoes are bigger and support your feet more because you have to change direction a lot and change speed. They are high-tops so when you change directions in practice or a game you won't sprain or break your ankles. I do cross-country and I play basketball a lot and i have two different shoes because I need the different support for each sport.|||Basketball shoes can have high tops or low tops, and focus on comforting your feet for running up and down the court. How often should a basketball fake a pass or a shot in playing basketball?

I was playing many years back. A teen from middle school said kids don't fake shots anymore that is old skool and that they would just block it. On a old Larry Bird training tape he said about faking often.

So how important are fakes in the game of basketball?

How often should we fake?

Is faking the ball very important these days in basketball?|||a well executed shot fake on a jumper, pump fake under the basket, or ball fake on a pass will work probably 80 - 90% of the time, and by "work" I mean get the defender off balance or out of position so you can make a play. Defense, by its nature, is reactionary, and it's difficult for defenders to train themselves not to react on well executed fakes. That's why guys who like to steal the ball will almost always "bite" on a good pass fake, and guys who like to block shots will almost always bite on a good pump fake. you can call it old-school if you like, but it works very well. there's no rule as to how often you should attempt one of these, it depends on the situation.|||it's how often it's the situation like if your wide open you wouldn't pump fake, you would pump fake if your defender was coming to block you.

|||When you know the defender is in disarray.

If you want to fake a shot, make sure your shooting is decent. That way, if the opponent sees you've got a nice touch, they'll have to respect your shot and contest it.

If he's late on the defense, fake a shot or a pass to misdirect him.

If you're in a tight spot, fake a shot to get him off his feet, in order to get the contact (if you try to do a leaner shot, that is - risky), or to do a fade-away.

In the post, if you have a reliable jump shot, you could use a pump fake in order to avoid being blocked.

As far as faking shots and all being considered old school, that's their opinion. If a move is usable and could give you an edge in games, so be it.

I use some shot fake motion quite often when posted up, in order to get the defender to jump. He won't be able to contest my shot as he would want. If I didn't dribble and he jumped, that's just an open road now.|||fake pass or shot is not really important in the game of basketball. it is important to the player's skill and strategy.if you dont want to fake passes or shots, its up to you.

you can fake the ball anytime you want as long as you dont travel. if you're faking a shot, you dont need to move your foot because you have a tendecy to travel. just stretch your arms and knees. it is also the same for fake passes. if you fake pass in a driving position, you should be aware that u are only allowed 2 steps without drbbling the ball or else you will be caught traveling.|||IMO it is very important, just watch players like Kobe, Manu Ginobili, Rajon Rondo etc...

some examples:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGNejETYC鈥?/a>

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smtK8R2aT鈥?/a>

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JI3vIFWC8鈥?/a>

it's part of the game.

due to the fact that the defensive player don't know what you going to do, he can only guess or follow you. as you can see the more skilled offensive players use more fakes, just look at some of kobe's videos:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgAlxZ1hX鈥?/a>

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCsdFuUM6鈥?/a>

another thing is that a fake is not have to be exaggerated, you can see a lot of small fakes and changing speeds in a player like Steve Nash

How often should a basketball player use a fake pass or shot when on offense? depend on the situation but if you take the best players you can see at least one fake in every time they have possession|||as often as possible to throw the other player just for a few seconds so you can get the shot off|||mabye once per shot?|||Fakes are in every game %26amp; great players use them to there advantage especially on weaker and/or less experienced players. If you watch some of the great shooters that have played they used fakes often in one on one moments. Even people like Kobe, Wade, Lebron use fakes to this day %26amp; have alot of success using it.When your a shooter people expect you to go up %26amp; are ready to jump to try %26amp; block it.Even a slight fake makes them move %26amp; if they don't alot of times stops them in there tracks for a chance to drive it to the basket. Just a small movement with your body or the ball can be considered a fake %26amp; open up endless opportunities for a person.

Jordan was a master at fakes as well as Bird %26amp; Majic. If you watch replays of them or other greats you can see how faking a pass or shot opens up other chances for them to either score or pass to a open man. One i remember seeing of Jordan was when he wanted to drive to the basket %26amp; multiple players came to stop him %26amp; he spun around to act like he was going to pass the ball out %26amp; the defense stopped to see what he was going to do. As that happened he turned to the inside %26amp; drove to the basket %26amp; dunked it w/ amazing style.

All in all it depends on the player %26amp; the defense on how they are reacting to him or her. To many times %26amp; they wont fall for it, but using them in a game is as important as anything else %26amp; should be used but not abused unless the defense just out right falls for it everytime.

What is the difference between college basketball and pro basketball?

My class is doing a research paper and my groups topic is basketball. My topic as a group member is what is the difference between college basketball and pro basketball. I need a very detailed answer if possible if not just give me what you got and the sources would be great also. Please and Thank You!|||College:

Three point line is at about 20.1 feet

The average height of players is lower than that of the NBA

Players don't get paid, just get scholarships to play for a school

They have tournaments which are single elimination to determine who is the best in the country

The NCAA tournament is widely considered the greatest part of the sports calendar because of the parody and intensity displayed in each game.

Pro Basketball:

Players make money for playing basketball

the level of skill is much higher than in college

players tend to be taller in the NBA.

3 point line in the NBA is at about 23 feet.

Playoffs are normally 7 games, winner winning atleast 4 out of 7 games for 4 rounds until a champion is crowned.

NBA season has 82 games + playoffs compared to colege which has about 30 regular season games + the championship torunaments.|||Also I think in official NCAA games they have a longer shot clock and only 2 quarters (nba has 4)

For shooting, just bounce the ball off the wall only using your wrist to help you get the motion. Also lay down on your back and shoot the ball into the air just to get comfortable with shooting.

What do basketball players have to focus on when you workout in the gym?

Hi. Just curious but what muscle of the body do Basketball players need the most. I know shoulders are pretty important for creating space. But i do know that shoulders are not the most important muscle to train.

So what is the most important muscle to train for basketball season?|||There are a number of muscles you need to train for basketball. Yes shoulders and other upper body muscles should be trained, but your lower body is probably more important and your core is definitely important.

Your core muscles should be focused on because having a strong core makes you faster and more powerful; it makes your other muscles more efficient and stronger, making your other necessary training more effective.

The top exercises you can do are:

- Core Exercises

- Squats (work nearly all muscles in the lower body)

- Lunges (work nearly all muscles in the lower body)

- Pull-ups/Chin-ups (work nearly all upper body muscles - also works the hamstrings a little)

- Bench Press (chest and triceps)

- Military (Shoulder) Press

- Leg Curls (hamstrings)

- Dips (chest and triceps)

Here is a list of muscles:

CORE: your core muscles are the most important to train, as they make the rest of your muscles and muscle groups stronger and more efficient.

Hamstrings (help with vertical)

Calves (help w/ vertical and quickness)

Hip Flexors (lateral quickness)

Quads %26amp; Butt (power)

Back/Shoulders (space/power)

Triceps (long-range shooting)

Chest (strength/power)

Core exercises would include crunches on a swiss ball, back raises, trunk twists, etc.

www.basketball-tips-and-training.com will have a number of these exercise descriptions up shortly (both core and other basketball-specific exercises).|||Pretty much every part of your body cuz thats what I do cuz you need to get stronger cuz when you play in basketball games you need stronger body parts to move faster and you will be playing tall guys so yeah thats another reason to work out in my opinion

its moslly the legs ill say.|||Usually arm and core muscles. If someone tries to jump you, you have to get it out of their hands first and that takes a lot of arm muscle. I want to start playing basketball but everybody else is really good?

I want to start playing basketball but everybody in my grade that plays it is really good. I'm 12 years old, 5' 3'', and i am actually pretty good at basketball. what can i do to improve and make the team?? i have a basketball hoop in my yard but i dont know pretty much anything about basketball!|||I'm 13 and 5'9" and I have always been the best in basketball. I have never really practiced because I was so much better than everyone else. Now, a lot of people have caught up to me because they worked hard and practiced. I practice a lot now and always wonder how good I would have been if I really pushed myself. It is never too late to start. Don't hold yourself back because people are better than you, trust me, its not as hard as it looks to catch up. My coach told us this story: When he was in high school there was a lot of really good players. A lot of them went on to play in college. Anyway, there was a new guy who really wanted to play. He tried out freshman year and didn't make it, he tried out in sophmore year and didnt make it, but he didnt give up and his jr. year his work payed off and he made the team. This story proves even in highschool its not to late to start, much less junior high. Good luck and work hard! You can catch up and become the star!

As far as skills, heres what our coach has us do to improve on fundamentals (he has coached varsity basketball for 12 years so he know what hes talking about):

1. Work on layups and footwork- do layups on each side of the basket and make sure you only take two steps. Aim for the top corner of the square. If you hit it right the ball goes in every time.

2. Work on shots, go around the basket and take shots. see what your best shot is and work to perfect it.

3. Get in good shape. Coaches love players that work hard and are in good shape. A lot of girls made my school team that didnt know how to play at all but they were in great shape from cross country.

4. Get familiar with the game. Learn the rules and watch some games on tv. Like you can only be in the key for 3 seconds and you can only hold the ball for 5.

5. Strengths- once you know your strengths and weaknesses you can work on making your weaknesses you strengths.

6. Defense- defense is the most important part of the game. Being in good shape is really helpful on defense. the only way you can practice it is to play eith someone else. Make sure to move fast and not reach.

Good Luck! I hope I helped you out! Don't give up I promise it is worth it! Basketball is so much fun and I wouldn't be able to live without it|||Just adding upon what everyone else has wrote.

The very first thing you should make a priority is to understand the basic fundamentals; the rules of basketball and the offensive and defensive elements of basketball itself.

It may seem much to learn, but if you understand and execute with the correct technique then there's nothing stopping you at becoming a great basketball player!

Btw, make sure you have yourself a fun time while doing this. All in all its still a game. =)|||Learn the fundamentals.. If you're dedicated go put up 500 shots in your backyard twice a day. There's hella youtube videos showing different offensive and defensive techniques, just search basketball fundamentals or tips. You're only 12 bro I just started playing ball and I'm a junior and I get picked up every game when we play at the courts even over the 20 and 30 year old guys that have been there forever lol.|||Good, better, best. Never let it rest. 'Til your good is better and your better is best. Practice makes perfect. If you love the game, you'll succeed. Work on ball handling, shooting and dribbling and make that saying your goal|||Never give up on your dreams and keep working hard. Basketball is a fun but intense sport, and practice your fundamentals and different drills.

Which type of spalding basketball would be the best for me?

I am planning to play basketball in the park, but I need to buy a basketball. I don't know know which type of basketball would be the best for me. I can't shoot heavy basketballs and I want it to be Spalding.

What do you think?|||Depends on your age. If you're going to play outside, don't buy a leather ball because it will get wrecked. Get a rubber ball, they're better for outside.|||Get the official size of basketball, so your hands will get used to it and make it easier for you to palm a ball. Don't buy a leather basketball as it won't last long when used in concrete courts. Get any of the spalding outdoor basketball.|||Well, it depends on what your age is. If you are 10 or younger, get a 28.5 size Spalding basketball. If you are older than 10, get a 29.5 size ball.|||Spalding Neverflat.

but anyways i wanna play next year so we can try to go to topeka kansas

and as u all know that is a really big deal 4 our middle school

and i really wanna be apart of it

its just that i feel like most of our girls could care less about it and i really dont wanna play if they are just going to cry around and not fight 4 it like me ash and some other girls will

Finally I would try and play with kids on the team, knowing the capabilties of everyone around you and getting familar with them is only going to help. Hope this helps.|||about the passing, another way is to draw a small x on the wall and try to hit it (may be easier than setting up targets). however, i don't think it is time efficient to practice passing like that. passing is mostly reading the defense and being able to make quick decisions. about dribbling, there are thousands of drills, pick some, master them and then pick new ones and master them etc. also, make sure you practice your moves too. what i do is for half the time, i pick a move i want to master (right now crossover) and spend half the time working on that and the other half on all other moves. i put a chair out and do a move past it and finish. you should also practice finishing. practice layups, reverse layups, floaters, using your left, short bank shots, mikan drill etc. then the rest of the time you should practice shooting. i like to start off with a form shooting game +5-5 where you get +1 you swish it, -1 if you get it in but don't swish it and -2 if you miss. i do this form shooting until i win the game twice. idk about you but for some reason, if i don't warm up good i shoot badly so for me this is very important. then after i win twice i shoot one handed moving back a step every time i make it until i get to about the foul line. then it's just all about geting as many shots up as you can. i like to think of games, like i try to hit one in a row, then two in a row then three and make my way to ten. good luck. also, use this for working out...

The way you know where that is is you look at the foul line(im sure u no what that is) and you follow it to the 3 point line(again im sure u no what that is) and stand there.... usually shooting guards go there if you have any other questions just e-mail me ill be happy to help ive been playing the sport all my life so if you have any more questions then just e-mail me|||Last I checked, baseball won't help you.

assuming i dont know anything about basketball. but i want to learn how to play basketball, it it possible that i learn how to play basketball from the intrenet? i dont have a basketball court near my house but i can practise at my front porch. is there any website which teaches basketball skills?|||It would be quite hard to learn how to play basket ball through the net but still where there is a will there is a way.|||If u hav a basketball then start to dribble, then when u r good at dribbling dribble behind ur back. When u got that down go between the legs. Shooting would be very hard 2 learn without a hoop.

|||basketball is a hard sport, get the basics down. Start dribbling with boths hands. Shooting start with your elbow at your hip %26amp; bring your arm up and curl you fingers and the end. Looks like youre grabbing cookies out of a tall jar. Watch basketball on TV and that will give you a good idea too.

Basketball?

I Lifted yesterday (Chest muscles/Shoulders) and Today(Biceps/Forarms) I lifted about 2 hours ago and am thinking about going to play basketball with some friends for about an hour and 30 minutes or so.

Would This hurt my muscle growth?

im still sore, And planning to work out Tomarrow,

so will it be okay to play basketball?

Thanks|||To be honest, if you are trying to develop large muscles, you had best limit your cardio (basketball would count as cardio). That is not to say that you can't play at all. It's just that you don't want to burn your calories doing cardio. You want to use your calories to build muscle. You need to eat a lot, lots of protein. Good healthful natural foods. Get lots of sleep and drink lots of milk.|||you shouldn't be lifting this much anyway, its best to lift about every 3 days. It's better for you than lifting every day, and you get more muscle.

|||If you're doing weight training, you should be leaving 24 hours between doing the same part of you body again. Your muscles really need that time to recover, even if you don't feel it. In the meantime, doing cardio, like basketball is a great way to keep yourself in shape and keep your muscles active.|||probanly not ok to play ball or work out tomorrow, unless is legs only. just sit back and strech out, and have a protien shake or two. but to answer the question, no i wont hurt bu it wont help either|||You're fine to play ball. It'll probably help you kick some of that soreness also (the movement will purge lactic acid from your system).
